Temples in Udaipur

Udaipur City is one of the most famous tourist destination in Rajasthan. Udaipur is not only famous for its historical forts and monuments but is also known for the striking temples which are built in beautiful architecture style. There are a number of famous temples in and around the Udaipur city which is greatly revered by the locals and tourists alike. Jagdish Temple is one of the most famous temples in Udaipur dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Other includes Eklingji Temple, Ambika Mata Temple. The nearby areas of the city also have famous temples like Ranakpur Temples, Rishabdeo Temple, Nathdwara Temple and Kankroli Temple.

History of Jagdish temple
The temple was built in 1651 under the reign of Maharana Jagat Singh who ruled Udaipur from 1628 to 1653. Jagdish Temple is the home of Lord Vishnu and an iconic example of Maru-Gujaru architecture of the era. The Maharana Jagat Singh spent 1.5 million rupees to enhance the structure of the Jagdish temple. The temple was renovated due to Mughal invasion. The Mughal invaders have destroyed many figurines and carvings in the temple as a part of revenge upon Rajput rulers. The Mughals took to vandalism to take out their anger and frustrations on their defeat by the hands of Mewar rulers. According to the old legends, it is believed that the marble slab in the Jagdish temple has magical powers. If you rub your shoulder, knees, or back on the marble, you can get a quick relief against the pain. For some people, it might be hard to believe, but the beliefs associated with religion cannot be questioned.

Jag Mandir
Jag Mandir is situated on the island of the Lake Pichola and also named as the ‘Lake garden palace’. its construction is started in early years of 17th century, By 3 Maharanas of the Sisodia Rajputs of Mewar. Construction of Jag Mandir Palace was started by Maharana Karan Singh, later on continued by Maharana Karan Singh in the years of 1620-28, and completed by Maharana Jagat Singh in the years of 1628–1652

Eklingji Temple
Eklingji Temple is the most popular pilgrimage destination of Rajasthan and is situated in the town of Eklingji (Kailashpuri). Eklingji Temple located at 22 kms away from Udaipur. The Temple was initially established in 734 A.D. by Bappa Rawal, the then King Udaipur. Inside the temple there are various pillared hall or ‘mandap’ and on entering the hall one can see a silver picture of Nandi.

Jagdish Temple is one of the most famous Hindu temple which is great massive in size and is located in the middle of the Udaipur city in the state of Rajasthan. Jagdish temple is the great tourist attraction which is also famous as the temple of Jagannath Rai but is presently known as the temple of Jagdish Ji.

Bohra Ganesh Temple
Bohra Ganesh Ji around 350 years old temple and is devoted to Lord Ganesh. It is one of the popular temples of Udaipur is which is situated on Bohra Ganesh Road, close to the Mohanlal Sukhadia University and also near to the Ahar Museum Dhoolkot.

Shrinath Ji Temple
Shrinathji temple is situated at Nathdwara, which is approx 50 km’s from Udaipur city and it is also termed as the gateway to Lord Shrinath Ji. The temple was established in the 17th century and owes a great story behind it.
