Govind Dev Ji Temple
Govind Dev Ji Temple Jaipur, The Vaishnava temple Govind Dev Ji is situated in Jaipur district in Rajasthan state of India. It is located in the City Palace complex. Murti is easily visible from City Palace. The temple is dedicated to Govind Dev Ji (Lord Krishna).This temple is among the 7 temples of Thakur of Vrindavan including Sri Radhavallabh ji, Shri Bankey Bihari Ji, Shri Govind Dev Ji and four others. The image of the deity (murti) was brought from Vrindavan here by Raja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur. According to popular legend, Lord Krishna's image in the temple looks exactly like Krishna's form during his incarnation on Earth.
The deity originally belonged to Srila Rupa Goswami who was a disciple of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
Govind devji here resides as Yugal Sarkar (divine couple) giving yugal darshan with Radha Rani adorned next to Govindji. Lalita and Vishakha sakhi offers tambul (betelnut) and ittar (perfume) Seva to celestial divine couple.
Govind Dev Ji Temple History:
Here the main deity is Sri Krishna and the idol was brought from Vrindavan by the King Sawai Jai Singh II. When the force of Mughal Emporer Aurangzeb was destroying the temples of Vrindavan, the priest kept the idol at a hidden place. Later the king brought the idol to Jaipur from Vrindavan.
Govind Dev Ji Temple Jaipur is located in between the Badal Mahal and Chandra Mahal in the City Palace complex. It was earlier known as Suraj mahal where Sawai Jai Singh II used to stay during the establishment of the city Jaipur. The palace was converted into the temple after the king saw a dream that this Lord Sri Krishna owned this particular place.
The idol of Govind Dev Ji resembles the newborn look of Sri Krishna. Previously the idol belonged to Srila Rupa Goswami a disciple of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. This idol of Sri Krishna is also known as Bajrakrit as it is believed that the idol was created by Sri Krishna’s grandson Bajranabh 5000 years ago. The idol was buried underneath before Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu excavated it about 500 years ago.
In Govind Dev Ji Mandir Jaipur, the deity is offered aarti and Bhog seven times a day. Also, during this time the idol of Sri Krishna is unveiled for Darshan. The temple is visited by thousands of devotees every day and during Janmashtami and other festivals, devotees from all over Rajasthan and other places of India gather here. Devotees also like to witness the auspicious event of Aarti in the evening.
Best Time to Visit
Due to its closeness to the desert area, the city experiences an extreme climate, where the summer season is extremely hot. The months from March till June, when the maximum temperature can reach up to 45 degrees, may not be the best time to visit the place.
The best season to visit this wonderful city is during the winter months, from October to March. The maximum temperature is around 20-22 degrees, when the intensity of the scorching sun is at its lowest. The nights are cooler, with the temperature dropping to about 5 degrees, while the days are extremely pleasant, and you can enjoy every bit of the city's heritage beauty and take back a memorable experience.
How to Reach
The city is well-equipped with a domestic airport, which is at a distance of 7 km from the main city, while the international airport is at a distance of 10 km.
The railway station is located at a convenient distance of 5 km and is well-connected to the main city. The railway network is quite vast and there are many trains which connect Jaipur with different cities across India. The city has three main railway junctions, the main station at Jaipur, the other at Gandhinagar and the third one at Durgapur.
The Pink City is also connected with the major cities through a strong network of national highways. The Rajasthan State Transport Corporation has a fleet of deluxe, semi-deluxe, Volvo and non AC buses, which make travelling more comfortable for tourists..
