Lodurva Temple in Jaisalmer

Lodurva is a village in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. Lodurva also called as Lodrawa or Lodarva was formal capital of Bhatti dynasty upto 1156 AD, before it was shifted to Jaisalmer. It was established by Rawal Jaisal. Lodurva is famous for Jain temples. Though the temples are in ruins, due to the bright yellow sandstones and temples architecture this place has extensive tourist attraction.

The temple walls are decorated with the images of Lord Parsvanath, the 23rd Jain Tirthankar. The Dilwara temple’s style can be noticed at the main temple entrance arch which has elegant and domineering architecture. It is one of the oldest and main temple of the Jain temples there. There are beautiful carvings on the walls of the temples. Sambhavanathji, Ashthapadi and Rishabhdevji are the other three elegantly sculptured Jain temples.

The Parshvanath temple is significant and center of the Jain pilgrimage. Rishabhnath temple is the second Jain temple at Lodurva and Shambhavanath temple is third important temple which is dedicated to the Jain Tirthankara Shambhavnath. Lodurva has a huge number of peacocks that flutter around the temple premises. It is a fascinating experience to watch the peacocks dance.

History of the temples
As one of the oldest temples, the temples have a rich history associated to it as well. It had been a witness to the grandeur and splendor of the Bhatti Rajputs. In fact, the temples are built by this clan of Rajputs. The Bhattis were present in this part of the Rajasthan for a long time. Before establishing their capital in Jaisalmer, the Rajputs rules supreme over Lodurva. A large number of tourists visit this place in order to witness the ruins of the city. On visiting this place, you will also be able to see the vibrantly colored peacocks dancing very close to you. However, the Lodurva temples are the prime attraction of the place.
