After that, it was leased by the British government, from the then Maharaja of Sirohi, for use as the headquarters of the resident to Rajputana (another name for Rajasthan). It was the favorite summer destination of the British during the British rule in India, who came here to escape the dusty, dry heat of the plains mainly Rajasthan. It also served as a sanatorium for the troops. The small huts and cottages here tell stories of those times even today. Mount Abu was the home of many saints and sages in the old days. Legend has it that all the 330 million gods and goddesses of the Hindu pantheon used to visit this holy mountain. It is also the place where the great saint Vashishth lived and performed a yagna (sacrificial worship on a fire pit) to create four Agnikula (four clans of fire) to save the earth from demons. The yagna was supposed to have been performed near a natural spring, which come out from a rock shaped like a cow’s head. According to another myth, once sage Vashishth’s cow Nandini was trapped in a deep gorge and could not free herself. The sage request Lord Shiva for help. The Lord sent Saraswati, the marvelous stream, to help flood the gorge so that the cow could float up. Vashishth then decided to make sure that such mishaps did not occur in future. He asked the youngest son of Himalaya, the king of mountains to fill the break permanently. This he did with the help of Arbud, the mighty snake. This spot came to be known as Mount Arbud and was later changed to its present form – Mount Abu.  This place is held in worship by Jains as well since Jain scriptures record that Lord Mahavira, the 24th Jain Tirthankar (spiritual leader), also visited Mount Abu of Rajasthan and blessed the city.

Gangaur Festival Celebration And Rituals

Gangaur  festival is held every year during the Hindu month of Chaitra which is on the following day of Holi, and is consummated on the third day of Shukla Pakshaof the same month. It  is one of the most auspicious festivals among the women in Rajasthan. The womenfolk celebrate the festival of Gangaur with great zeal and devotion, praying to Goddess Parvati/Gauri to bless them with a bountiful spring that’s full of harvest, and also marital harmony. They also urge the goddess to bless their husbands with good health and long life.

The term “Shakti” has always held a special status in the Hindu religion. Shakti refers to an exclusively feminine principle and is perceived in all phenomena of life. The originator of life on Earth, it is responsible for the movement of all things, be it the cosmic objects or the various forces of nature. Deprived of Shakti, all creation on the planet will be renderedinept. Numerous ancient Indian texts, like the Vedas, Puranas and Epics bear citation of this cosmic power, recognizing its godly form as Parvati, the wife of Hindu God, Shiva. Over the ages, Shakti has been synonymous to a myriad of forms and identified under many names, one of which is Gauri. And as is suggestive by the name, the notable Gangaur festival is observed in honor of this very manifestation of Shakti (Gauri). The term “Gangaur” is comprised of “Gan” and “Gaur” where the prior refers to Shiva and the latter to Gauri. The Gangaur festival marks the worship and propitiation of Gauri, by the womenfolk, in various parts of Central and Western India, majorly Rajasthan.

Celebration Of Festival
Throughout the 18 days, the city celebrates with a lively fair that sells all kinds of souvenirs, masterpieces and interesting activities. Images of the God and Goddess are made out of clay for the rituals. Some families use their traditional wooden images, which they paint on the eve of the festival. The festival reflects the rich culture and tradition of rajasthan. Young girls, newly wed women and elderly women can be seen attired in traditional costumes or in special multicolored striped pattern Laharia Sari and ornaments. They can be seen applying henna to decorate their hands and singing songs of love and enjoying flower bedecked swings, which are hung on trees.

Famous Old Heritage city Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh

Famous Old Heritage city Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh

The Khajuraho Group of Monuments is a group of Hindu temples and Jain temples in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, India, about 175 kilometers southeast of Jhansi. They are one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India. The temples are famous for their nagara-style architectural symbolism and their erotic sculptures

The Kandariya Mahadeva Temple, meaning “the Great God of the Cave”, is the largest and most ornate Hindu temple in the medieval temple group found at Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, India. It is considered one of the best examples of temples preserved from the medieval period in India

The Lakshmana Temple is a 10th-century Hindu temple built by Yashovarman located in Khajuraho, India. Dedicated to Vaikuntha Vishnu – an aspect of Vishnu.

The Duladeo Temple is a Hindu temple in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, India. The temple is dedicated to the god Shiva in the form of a linga, which is deified in the sanctum. ‘Dulodeo’ means “Holy Bridegroom”. The temple is also known as “Kunwar Math”. The temple faces east and is dated to 1000–1150 AD.

The Khajuraho group of monuments was built during the rule of the Chandela dynasty. The building activity started almost immediately after the rise of their power, throughout their kingdom to be later known as Bundelkhand. Most temples were built during the reigns of the Hindu kings Yashovarman and Dhanga. Yashovarman’s legacy is best exhibited by the Lakshmana Temple. Vishvanatha temple best highlights King Dhanga’s reign. The largest and currently most famous surviving temple is Kandariya Mahadeva built in the reign of King Vidyadhara.[ The temple inscriptions suggest many of the currently surviving temples were complete between 970 and 1030 CE, with further temples completed during the following decades.

The Khajuraho temples were built about 35 miles from the medieval city of Mahoba, the capital of the Chandela dynasty, in the Kalinjar region. In ancient and medieval literature, their kingdom has been referred to as Jijhoti, Jejahoti, Chih-chi-to and Jejakabhukti.
