Today there is no sign of the palace, but the location remained the same: captivating, overflowing with flowers , trees and green meadows in the midst of the beautiful Himalayan surroundings. The picturesque hill station, long lost in oblivion, has been rediscovered by the British. They purchased the land from the indigenous villagers and transformed it into a summer resort apart from establishing A Recruitment Center for the Army. The headquarters of the gallant Kumaon Regiment remains Ranikhet. Situated at 1,829 meters above sea level, with an area of 21.76 sq. Km Ranikhet has too much to offer to visitors – a healthy climate, tall coniferous trees, vast green meadows, quiet surroundings, perfect peace and warm, open-hearted persons. That season has its own unwavering beauty. It is what makes Ranikhet a destination in all seasons. Ranikhet also boasts one of the country’s best hill-golf greens (9 holes).

8. Shillong, Meghalaya

Located at an average altitude of 1400 m, East Shillong or Scotland is one of the most beautiful Northeastern tourist destinations.
