History of Mount Abu :-

The history of Mount Abu of Rajasthan is as varied as the city itself. It act as a summer resort for the Rajput kings of the region and once it was a part of the Chauhan kingdom of Rajasthan. After that, it was leased by the British government, from the then Maharaja of Sirohi, for use as the headquarters of the resident to Rajputana (another name for Rajasthan). It was the favorite summer destination of the British during the British rule in India, who came here to escape the dusty, dry heat of the plains mainly Rajasthan. It also served as a sanatorium for the troops. The small huts and cottages here tell stories of those times even today. Mount Abu was the home of many saints and sages in the old days. Legend has it that all the 330 million gods and goddesses of the Hindu pantheon used to visit this holy mountain. It is also the place where the great saint Vashishth lived and performed a yagna (sacrificial worship on a fire pit) to create four Agnikula (four clans of fire) to save the earth from demons.

The yagna was supposed to have been performed near a natural spring, which come out from a rock shaped like a cow’s head. According to another myth, once sage Vashishth’s cow Nandini was trapped in a deep gorge and could not free herself. The sage request Lord Shiva for help. The Lord sent Saraswati, the marvelous stream, to help flood the gorge so that the cow could float up. Vashishth then decided to make sure that such mishaps did not occur in future. He asked the youngest son of Himalaya, the king of mountains to fill the break permanently. This he did with the help of Arbud, the mighty snake. This spot came to be known as Mount Arbud and was later changed to its present form – Mount Abu. This place is held in worship by Jains as well since Jain scriptures record that Lord Mahavira, the 24th Jain Tirthankar (spiritual leader), also visited Mount Abu of Rajasthan and blessed the city.

Seven Wonders Park in Kota comprises of miniatures of all the Seven Wonders of the World. These include Taj Mahal, Great Pyramid, Eiffel Tower, Leaning Tower, Christ the Redeemer of Brazil, Colosseum, and Statue of Liberty. The project which was undertaken to build this garden was worth 20 crores by Urban Development Department. It took more than 150 workers to complete the project.

Mukundra Tiger Reserve :-

The Mukundara Tiger Reserve is 50 kilometres from Kota. Tigers are often relocated here from Ranthambore Reserve. It has a core area of 417 square kilometres and a buffer zone covering 342.82 square kilometres. Other wildlife includes panther, deer, wild boar and bear. This thickly wooded area is home to a large variety of birds as well.

Garadia Mahade Temple :-

Garadia Mahadev Temple is a noted shrine of Kota, located near the Chambal River. It is located near the NH-76 that leads to Dabi and Chittorgarh. Rajasthan’s nomenclature is perhaps the best one, the most appropriate in the Indian states. History :-

Unlike the other havelis of Rajasthan, the Samode Palace does not belong to any royal family but a family of noblemen, the Rawals of Samode. It is about four hundred years old, and has some new additions and modifications. This family traces its descent to Prithvi Singh of Amber (1503-1528), the seventeenth prince of the house of Kachwaha Rajputs, who in turn trace their descent to Lord Rama. Gopal Singh, one of the 12 sons of Prithvi Singh, was given Samode, which owed loyalty to the rulers of Amber and Jaipur. These noblemen of Samode were bestowed the title of ‘Maha Rawal’, in place of just ‘Rawal’ by the royal family for their bravery and loyalty towards the royal family.

Samode Fort :-

HISTORY :-

Founded by Maharaja Suraj Mal in 1733 AD, Bharatpur – The ‘Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan’, was once an impregnable well fortified city, carved out of the region formerly known as Mewat. The trio of Bharatpur, Deeg and Dholpur has played an important part in the history of Rajasthan. The place was named as Bharatpur after the name of Bharat, the brother of Lord Rama, whose other brother Laxman was worshipped as the family deity of the Bharatpur. The legends say the rulers Laxman’s name is engraved on the state arms and the seals. The city and the fort have been believed to be founded by Rustam, a Jat of Sogariya clan. Maharaja Suraj Mal took over from Khemkaran, the son of Rustam, and established the empire. He fortified the city by building a massive wall around the city. The 55 km Long journeys by road from Agra drives you to the town of Bharatpur – the eastern gateway to Rajasthan . Bharatpur is popular for its bird sanctuary-the Keoladeo Ghana National Park – finest in Asia with a rich avian variety . Every year the rare Siberian cranes come to spend the winter in the warmer climate of Bharatpur . Of the remnants of the royal past remains the marvelous Bharatpur Palace housing a rich repository of large number of ancient exhibits that date back to the early 15th century.

Bharatpur’s bus stand is in the west of town near Anah Gate, just off NH-11. If you’re arriving from Fatehpur Sikri , get off well before, when the bus stops at the crossroads on the opposite side of town near the park gates, as this is nearer all the hotels and guesthouses. From the main bus stand, services run to all major centres in Rajasthan (including Jaipur) and to Delhi, Agra and Fatehpur Sikri. Two kilometres northwest, the railway station lies on the main Delhi-Mumbai line. There are also two fast trains to Agra (2hr) and one to Amritsar (14hr), and an express service to Sawai Madhopur (2hr 30min). The town’s tourist office (Mon-Sat 10am-5pm), where you can pick up good state maps and information on Bharatpur and the sanctuary, stands at the crossroads near the park entrance where Fatehpur Sikri buses pull in. Cycle rickshaws are the main form of transport within the city, but fares for the long haul in and out of town soon mount up, and it makes sense to rent a bicycle , either from your hotel (around Rs35/day) or the shop on NH-11 outside the Spoonbill Restaurant . If you need to change money , head for the State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, Binarayan Gate (Mon-Fri 10am-2pm, Sat 10am-noon).

Once the royal hunting ground of the princes of Bharatpur, the Bharatpur Keoladeo National Park is one of the finest habitat of birds in the world. Bubbling with over 400 species of resident water birds, the park is furthermore populated by the annual influx of birds from colder countries (during winter season). Exotic migratory birds from Afghanistan, Central Asia, Tibet as well as Siberia, the Arctics and China, come here in the months of October/ November to spend the winters.

Lohagarh Fort :-

The Lohagarh Fort (also known as Iron Fort) was built in the early part of 18th century by Maharaja Suraj Mal, the founder of Bharatpur. Supposedly taking its name from its invincible defense, the massive iron structure prides in being one of the few impregnable structures of Rajasthan in India. The fort complex holds three exquisitely built palaces namely – Kishori Mahal, Mahal Khas and Kothi Khas. Hence it is called Jagat Mandir or Jag Mandir. Serving as a summer resort and pleasure area for the royal family of Mewar, this place is also famous for holding parties and wedding functions. In here you will find Gul Mahal, Darikhana, Garden Courtyard, Bara Patharon ka Mahal, Zenana Mahal, and Kunwar Pada ka Mahal. Jag Mandir is the main palace and it includes the Gul Mahal. The towers at the corner are octagonal in shape and have cupolas on the top. Residential suites, reception halls and internal courts adorn the palace. The architecture of the building reflects Mughal and Rajput style.

Saheliyon Ki Bari :-

Saheliyon ki Bari is a beautiful garden in the city of Udaipur and is one of the popular Udaipur tourist places. Fountains, marble art and the lush lawns attract the public each time. Saheliyon ki Bari in English means the ‘garden of maids’. This garden represents a green retreat of Maharana Sangram Singh in the desert lands and was built in the 18th Century for the royal ladies of Mewar. According to the legend here, the garden was personally designed by the king and gifted to his queen. The queen had 48 maids accompanying her after the marriage and to offer them peace and happiness away from the regular life, this garden was built.
