Agra Travel Guide – Visit the Most Visited Place in India

When the word Agra is mentioned, the next word that comes to our mind is Taj Mahal. But Agra is not famous for Taj Mahal alone. It has totally three UNESCO World Heritage sites namely Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. But single day visit will be enough if you want to see just these three places. However there are many other tourist attractions in Agra such as Sikandra, Itmad-Ud-Daulah’s Tomb and Jama Masjid and to explore them all you need to stay longer and need a reliable Agra travel guide.

The city of Agra served as the capital of ancient India and the seat of Mughal Empire. So Mughal influence could be found in its culture, tradition, cuisine and architecture. There are many Mughal Gardens found in and around the city. It is needless to say that Taj Mahal built by King Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal is a dream in marble and a standing symbol of true love. The ethereal beauty of the building could not be described in words.

The glory of Agra Fort could be understood by the different structures in it such as Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, Moti Masjid, Sheesh Mahal and Jahangir Palace, etc. The perimeter of the fort runs to 2.4 kilometers. Fatehpur Sikri located at a distance of about 40 kilometers from Agra is a majestic fort in ruins. Buland Darwaza here is considered to be the biggest doorway in the world rising to a height of 53.63 meters. All these grandeurs make Agra the most visited place in India.

Das Taj Mahal in Agra beim Sonnenuntergang vom Mahtab Bagh aus gesehen

Another reason that makes Agra a desirable place is its close proximity to New Delhi, the capital of India. New Delhi is a commercial, cultural, educational and political center and so thousands of people come and go every day. The first time visitors to New Delhi never fail to visit Agra and Taj Mahal, the wonder of the world is one of the appealing features. To cater to their needs, there are frequent buses and trains to Agra from New Delhi.

Agra is famous for its mouthwatering, aromatic and spicy non-vegetarian Mughlai dishes. The kebabs, the korma varieties, roasted lamb, beef and chicken and spicy biriyanis are some of them. Most of the Agra restaurants are located in the Taj Ganj area, a perfect place for food enthusiasts. Some of the multi-cuisine restaurants are located near the west gate of Taj Mahal. You can find North Indian, South Indian, Chinese, Italian, Mughlai and continental dishes in these Agra restaurants.

If you want to enjoy all the wonders that Agra has in store for you, you must choose the right hotel to stay. Many Agra hotels are located around Fatehabad region. If you want to visit Taj Mahal in full moon night, choose the hotel near Taj Mahal. Many cozy hotels have Taj Mahal view rooms. Some of the reasonably priced Agra hotels and Agra restaurants have rooftop seating that give a distant view of Taj Mahal. You can enjoy this great monument during sunrise and sunset if you book your rooms in one such hotel.

The Festival of Lights Diwali Best Wises To Rajasthan Tour Planner

India is a country of fairs, festivals and celebrations, There is no season in India without its particular festivals and festivities. They make life enjoyable and colourful by breaking the drudgery and monetary or routine life. Dipawali or Diwali is a major Indian festival observed with much enthusiasm, gay abandon and good preparation. It comes every year after rainy season in the Hindu month of Kartika (October – November). During this age-old festival there is festivity everywhere and people enjoy to their hearts’ content. The festivity is all pervasive and all the communities take an active part in the celebration.

During Diwali, days houses, shops and establishments are thoroughly cleaned, white-washed and repaired and then tastefully decorated. All over the cities, towns and villages there are meals and fairs and special shops are set up to sell sweets, fire crackers, lamps, pots and pans, fruits, flowers, toys, gift items etc. People are on a buying spree and purchase a lot of things including sweets, jewelery, new clothes and costly gifts. The bazzars and fairs are overcrowded and the businessman have excellent sales and profits.

It is an occasion of merry-making, exchange of sweets, gifts, greetings, good-wishes and for asking forgiveness from one another. At night earthen lamps are lit, fire-crackers burnt and visits are paid to friends and relatives. The exchange of pleasantries, gifts and sweets etc. give the much needed relief from the tensions, worries and routine of daily life. But gradually the earthen lamps are being replaced by candles and electric lights. This has affected the potter badly and his income has dwindled. The festival reminds us of Lord Rama’s triumphant return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana of Lanka. On this day Rama was crowned as king of Ayodhya and celebrations were held on a large scale. And every nook and corner was lighted with lamps at night. During night Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth is worshipped and her blessings sought. The businessmen close their old accounts and open new books on this auspicious day. The Jains celebrate it because Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara obtained Nirvana on this day.

The festival is being increasingly used to give expensive gifts by the contractors, businessmen, powerbrokers etc., to the politicians, bureaucrates, and officers to seek their illegal favour in near future. This is a very corrupt practice being indulged in. Gifts worth crores rupees are showered with a definite purpose of getting undue favours, sanction etc. drinking and gambling are other evils associated with the festival. People indulge in drinking and create scenes. Many people play cards and gamble. The stakes are very high and bids placed amount to lakhs of rupees. Thus, black and illgotten money is freel.

The Origins of Horse Riding Jodhpurs and Achieving the Perfect Fit

Jodhpurs are specially designed trousers to provide comfort and safety whilst horse riding. Typically they are a tight fitting full length trouser with reinforced inner knee patches. They are designed for long periods of sitting, with seams positioned to ensure that they don’t rub and a seat to offer a resistance from abrasion and a grip in the saddle.

They are available in a variety of styles. Depending on the type of riding you are doing, the style of jodhpurs may vary. For example, for show jumping or dressage particular colours may be required, commonly neutrals such as beige or white. Whereas for general stable work or hacking, a more casual jodhpur would probably be appropriate.

The History of Jodhpurs

Jodhpurs are named after a city in India where one of the Maharajah of Jodhpur’s younger sons invented them in the late 1800s inspired by the ancient Indian Chruidar trousers. They were first popular with polo teams, who enjoyed the freedom of movement jodhpurs offered, and were soon adopted by equestrians worldwide who saw the benefits of these trousers for all kinds of horse riding.

Tips for Fitting Jodhpurs

In terms of fit, jodhpurs should be close fitting, but not so tight that they are uncomfortable and inhibit movement or circulation. They should be snug on the calf and waist, whilst also allowing for easy freedom of movement. The sizing should be similar to your normal trouser size in waist and leg length, but different brands may fit differently.

With jodhpurs, leg length should be measured from the top of the inside leg to the inner ankle, as a standard, short is 27 inches, regular is 29 inches and long is 31 inches for ladies jodhpurs.

Ideally your jodhpurs should feel and move like a second skin. Any seams should not rub or be uncomfortable. If the seams do cause irritation, it may be because the seams are incorrect for your body shape, so as with finding the perfect pair of jeans, you might need to try a few pairs before you settle on the most comfortable.

Similarly, the rise can vary in a jodhpur and you may find that some brands are more suitable to your body shape. You may also want to consider other practicalities such as interior pockets for keys or cash, or two tone jodhpurs for a more flattering look!

Jodhpurs are part of a horse rider’s essential kit. It’s worth investing the time to make sure you get the best possible fit.

How to Choose the Right Jodhpurs

Jodhpurs are an essential part of horse riding. They are designed to be flexible and comfortable. Some are made from cotton and synthetic materials. The spandex in them helps the pants to stretch and mould to your body. They are long in length and go right down to the ankle. Some finish with a cuff, or have an elastic strap at the bottom. This fits like a stirrup and stops them from riding up. The long length goes great with a long or a short boot.

The jodhpurs have a bit more material added to the seat and inner knee. It is usually made out of suede or synthetic suede. This stops chafing and stops your knees from slipping forward when riding. Some jodhpurs have more cushioning than others, so you will have to choose according to the type of riding that you do.

Mehrangarh fort Jodhpur

The stitching has also been cleverly designed. They either have a flat stitch or no stitching at all. The stitching is designed to stop rubbing and to prevent chafing. Doing this gives you a lot more comfort when you ride. Most jodhpurs feature a standard front hook and a zip closure, whilst others, in particular children’s sizes, you can just pull them up.

Jodhpurs come in two different styles, the high waist and the hipsters. To measure properly, first you need to decide what style you prefer. Then get a tape measure and measure around your waist for the high waist design. For the hipster style you need to measure around your hips. You then measure the inseam of your leg to get the correct length for you.

Jodhpurs are a very tight fit, so whether you buy online or from a shop, you need to make sure you go one size bigger in your waist measurement and for your pants size, I always go one size bigger than my standard jeans size. Another thing to watch out for is when you try them on, check there is no gap at the waist and the patches fit right over your inner knee.

You can choose a variety of colors, which is great because the darker colors are fantastic for everyday use and easy to keep clean. Make sure you check with your clubs first, because you may also need the traditional cream or lighter colors because they still are the choice for competition work.

When you first get them home they will be quite tight and a bit stiff. So give them a wash using manufacturer’s instructions and wear them a couple of times, you will find they will mould to your body and will start to stretch.

I also have been told by friends and other riders that are a bit bigger in size, that the jodhpurs are not very flattering on them. So if you are a bit hesitant in trying them, maybe start with a darker colors, they are a lot more slimming and also with boots they tend to balance out.

There are a lot of different styles out there as well, so you need to do a bit of research, ask other riders what brands they like and try a few pairs on. I am sure you will find a pair of jodhpurs that are comfortable and that suit you.

Some people worry about how they look in jodhpurs, it is all about comfort and to stop chaffing while you ride. People passing by don’t even look at what we are wearing; the horse usually gets all the attention. So don’t stress just have fun and be comfortable. Enjoy the ride and have a few different pairs of jodhpurs in your wardrobe.

Jodhpurs come in two different styles, the high waist and the hipsters. To measure properly, first you need to decide what style you prefer, and then get a tape measure and measure around your waist for the high waist design and around your hips for the hipster design.
