Jamva Ramgarh Wildlife Sanctuary

Jamva Ramgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary is located 25 km away from Jaipur, Rajasthan. This sanctuary name is based on it’s Ramgarh Dam. The Jamwa Ramgarh was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1982. It extends to a pretty large coverage of 300 sq.km. Nine sq. km area is for the lake, is an awesome place for picnic and boating.

The Land around the Jamwa Ramgarh Wildlife Sanctuary has reflected in the semi-arid region with dry deciduous and desert mixed forest. During Maharaja’s time, Jaipur kings use to hunt animals here later this place turned in to Wildlife Sanctuary. If you want to enjoy the Ramgarh lake waters view by going for boating in the lake. The good season to visit the Ramgarh lake is during monsoon because in summer water will dry up. The total lake area is 15.5 km. Jamwa Ramgarh Wildlife Sanctuary offers safari to see wild animals roaming along with the spectacular views of birds near the lake.

History

Jamva Ramgarh Wildlife Sanctuary was once a hunting ground for the Maharajas of Jaipur. Over the years, the place has been turned into a heritage place. The heritage hotel at Ramgarh now stands majestically overlooking the Ramgarh Lake which is spread across an area of 15.5 sq. kms. Until year 2000, the lake had been a major source of water for the Pink City. Ramgarh Lake has a historical record of hosting a rowing event during 1982 Asian Games. The thick forest near Ramgarh Lake is home to many wildlife species such as Neelgai, Chital and lions. Hence, it has been pronounced a Wildlife Sanctuary since 1982, by the Government of India.
