Legend has it that all the 330 million gods and goddesses of the Hindu pantheon used to visit this holy mountain. It is also the place where the great saint Vashishth lived and performed a yagna (sacrificial worship on a fire pit) to create four Agnikula (four clans of fire) to save the earth from demons. This place is held in worship by Jains as well since Jain scriptures record that Lord Mahavira, the 24th Jain Tirthankar (spiritual leader), also visited Mount Abu of Rajasthan and blessed the city.

The main purpose of constructing this monument was to provide protection to the city of Amber which was the ruling city at that time. Within its walls, the fort houses Madhavendra Bhawan, the summer destination for the members of the royal family. 12 identical suites for queens and at the head is a suite for the king himself. The rooms are linked by corridors and retain some delicate frescoes as well as toilets and kitchen hearths.

Hawamahal :
Being one of the major attractions of Jaipur, this palace is yet another beautiful creation in jaipur. The Palace of winds was built by Sawai Pratap Singh in 1747. It has latticed windows that allowed royal ladies to have view of the market place. This unique five-storey structure is a blend of Hindu and Islamic architecture, and the exterior, with its small latticed windows (called jharokhas), resembles the crown of Lord Krishna. Built from pink sandstone, the Hawa Mahal is Jaipur’s iconic landmark and visitors can view its complete magnificence from outside, from across the road.
