Travel Attraction In Bharatpur

Bharatpur 

The only Jat kingdom in the state, the rock-hard mud fortifications of its fort proved invincible even under repeated siege. The fort houses early remnants of artifacts and sculpture, while the modern palace outside is a sprawling structure. However, Bharatpur is better known as a bird sanctuary (Keoladeo Ghana National Park).

HISTORY :-

Founded by Maharaja Suraj Mal in 1733 AD, Bharatpur – The ‘Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan’, was once an impregnable well fortified city, carved out of the region formerly known as Mewat. The trio of Bharatpur, Deeg and Dholpur has played an important part in the history of Rajasthan. The place was named as Bharatpur after the name of Bharat, the brother of Lord Rama, whose other brother Laxman was worshipped as the family deity of the Bharatpur. The legends say the rulers Laxman’s name is engraved on the state arms and the seals. The city and the fort have been believed to be founded by Rustam, a Jat of Sogariya clan. Maharaja Suraj Mal took over from Khemkaran, the son of Rustam, and established the empire. He fortified the city by building a massive wall around the city. The 55 km Long journeys by road from Agra drives you to the town of Bharatpur – the eastern gateway to Rajasthan . Bharatpur is popular for its bird sanctuary-the Keoladeo Ghana National Park – finest in Asia with a rich avian variety . Every year the rare Siberian cranes come to spend the winter in the warmer climate of Bharatpur . Of the remnants of the royal past remains the marvelous Bharatpur Palace housing a rich repository of large number of ancient exhibits that date back to the early 15th century.

Bharatpur’s bus stand is in the west of town near Anah Gate, just off NH-11. If you’re arriving from Fatehpur Sikri , get off well before, when the bus stops at the crossroads on the opposite side of town near the park gates, as this is nearer all the hotels and guesthouses. From the main bus stand, services run to all major centres in Rajasthan (including Jaipur) and to Delhi, Agra and Fatehpur Sikri. Two kilometres northwest, the railway station lies on the main Delhi-Mumbai line. There are also two fast trains to Agra (2hr) and one to Amritsar (14hr), and an express service to Sawai Madhopur (2hr 30min). The town’s tourist office (Mon-Sat 10am-5pm), where you can pick up good state maps and information on Bharatpur and the sanctuary, stands at the crossroads near the park entrance where Fatehpur Sikri buses pull in. Cycle rickshaws are the main form of transport within the city, but fares for the long haul in and out of town soon mount up, and it makes sense to rent a bicycle , either from your hotel (around Rs35/day) or the shop on NH-11 outside the Spoonbill Restaurant . If you need to change money , head for the State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, Binarayan Gate (Mon-Fri 10am-2pm, Sat 10am-noon).

Keoladeo National Park :-

This would be any bird-watching enthusiasts first choice. Once the royal hunting ground of the princes of Bharatpur, the Bharatpur Keoladeo National Park is one of the finest habitat of birds in the world. Bubbling with over 400 species of resident water birds, the park is furthermore populated by the annual influx of birds from colder countries (during winter season). Exotic migratory birds from Afghanistan, Central Asia, Tibet as well as Siberia, the Arctics and China, come here in the months of October/ November to spend the winters.

Lohagarh Fort :-

The Lohagarh Fort (also known as Iron Fort) was built in the early part of 18th century by Maharaja Suraj Mal, the founder of Bharatpur. Supposedly taking its name from its invincible defense, the massive iron structure prides in being one of the few impregnable structures of Rajasthan in India. The fort complex holds three exquisitely built palaces namely – Kishori Mahal, Mahal Khas and Kothi Khas. Two of eight imposing towers – Jawahar Burj and Fateh Burj still stands in pride within the fort complex. These towers were built to symbolise his victory over the Mughals and the British rulers.

Rana Kumbha Palace is a part of number of legends. These legends are associated with queen Padmini of Chittorgarh. The palace is also named after the greatest of the Sisodias. The location of the palace also has its association with the history of the place. It is in this location where Padmini committed Jauhar or self immolation. The self immolation was also joined by 700 followers to save honor. This was done as a way to avoid getting dishonored at the hands of the enemies. However, after much effort, archaeologists still haven’t discovered the underground cellars where this act was performed.

On visiting the Rana Kumbha Palace, you will surely be able to come across a number of historically significant items. The palace was built by Bappa Rawal in 734 AD. He was the founder of the House of Mewar. It was later renovated by Maharana Kumbha. The palace had also played the role of residence to Princess Mira Bai. She was a famous poetess of that era. The palace also has its association with the legend of Panna Dhai who saved infant Udai Singh.

Vijay Stambh Chittorgarh :-
Vijay Stambh or the Tower of Victory is yet another historical monument that shows the valour and vigour of Rajaputs. The Tower of Victory built by Rana Kambh in 1440 AD, to honour the victory over the Mahumud Khilji of Malwa. Although the Chittorgarh fort comprises of a lot of temples and palaces the Tower of Victory holds a special importance. Each slab on the tower signifies various aspects.
The fort was under siege thrice but has survived all through it and hence holds much historical importance and values. The Vijay Stambh has 9 storeys and each storey is decorated with the mythical stories of Hindu Gods and Goddesses. The beauty of this structure is more enhanced during the evenings when it is illuminated.

 

Padmini Palace Chittorgarh:-
One of the prominent tourist attractions in Chittorgarh, Padmini’s Palace narrates the story of the Cleopatra of India-Rani Padmini in its design. Also known as Rani Padmini’s Palace, it flaunts a three-Storeyed structure, which has its outer walls painted white and it overlooks a pleasant lotus pool. Surrounded by water, the architecture of the Palace is somehow influenced by the Jal Mahal of Jaipur.
History has it that Alauddin Khilji was smitten by the beauty of Rani Padmini and he used the surrounding water to catch the glimpses of her. His efforts to possess her resulted in the death of the Queen’s husband and her committing Jauhar. Today, the famous Padmini palace stands as a promising symbol of beauty, valor, honor and tragedy of the past of Chittor.

 

Government Museum :-
One of the most popular museums of Chittorgarh, Archaeological Museum is home to such valuable artifacts that are of immense historical significance. Placed at the eastern ending of Banbir-ki-Diwar, this museum boasts of an amazing collection of innumerable historical artifacts sourced from the Chittorgarh Fort and objects related to Hinduism as well as Buddhism that were found at the time of the excavation. One can also spot Buddhist stupas, under the trees. These stupas are placed quite close to Patta Tank and Jaimal Tank.

The collection at Archaeological Museum in Chittorgarh includes Stone Age objects, art and craft objects, coins, frescos, metallic objects, paintings, inscriptions, weapons, sculptures and terracotta figures etc. This museum was originally a fort, built by Maharaja Fateh Singh Ji during the 19th century. In the year 1968, it was transformed into a museum by the government.

Every year in the month of Kartik, Pushkar Mela is celebrated. Drawing in 50,000 camels and 200,000 people, this fair is considered as the largest platform to buy and sell camels, cattle and horses – most of the trading, however, is completed in the days leading up to the fair. This carnival gathers camel traders and associates from all the parts of the world. One can witness unusual performances like camel dancing, bump riding, neck shaking and various other things. A huge camel procession is organized on the 1st day followed by various competitions and trading activities. Owners decorate their camels with paints, jewellery, cloths etc. By the end of the day, live dance and music performances are organized to celebrate the culture of Rajasthan. One the last day, fireworks are organized to lighten-up the entire city and illuminate the deserts of Pushkar.

Mewar Festival Udaipur  :-

Here comes the spring! This is the time when Mewar festival takes place. During this festival, women carry the statues of Isar and Gangaur towards Lake Pichola. Ranthambore National Park – 

Ranthambore National Park is a vast wildlife reserve near the town of Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan, northern India. Hawa Mahal was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799. Hawa Mahal is a pyramid-shaped facade with five stories. It has 953 small windows decorated with tiny lattice work. These pink sandstone windows commonly known as “Jharokhas” are constructed in such a style, that it looks like a giant honeycomb.

Jantar Mantar :-

Jantar Mantar, in Jaipur, is the most famous among five observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh II in India. It was built to check the astronomical observation at Jaipur. The Jantar Mantar at Jaipur was conceived as a quest for discovering the mysteries of the Cosmos .The sun dial of Jantar mantar is one of the major tourist attraction. In Sanskrit, ‘Jantar Mantar’ is used for ‘Magical Devices’ and it is undoubtedly so with the huge masonry instruments, which were placed here to measure ‘the harmony of the heavens’. Conceived by Sawai Raja Jai Singh II, it was completed in seven years from 1727 to 1733.Sawai Jai Singh sent his ambassadors to all parts of the world before starting the construction of this observatory.

City Palace :-

City Palace, Jaipur,  is a palace complex in Jaipur, the capital of the Rajasthan state.  It was the seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur, the head of the Kachwaha Rajput clan.  The palace complex, located northeast of the centre of the grid-patterned Jaipur city, incorporates an impressive and vast array of courtyards, gardens and buildings. The palace was built between 1729 and 1732, initially by Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber. He planned and built the outer walls, and later additions were made by successive rulers continuing up to the 20th century.
