Naukuchiatal is a lake with 9 corners as suggested by its name. A big area of Naukuchiatal in the west is full of lotus plants and covered with weeds. The length of the lake from north to south is 945 meters and width from east to west is 690 meters having a great depth of 41 meters in the middle, which is the deepest lake in the whole Nainital.
There is a vast imposing idol of Hanuman in the Vishnu temple on your right before reaching Naukuchiatal. The road sort of ends at this small hill village with a population of around 5000. Positioned at a height of 1220 meters, its depth is 120ft and it has an area of 7, 00,000 square meters – bigger than Nainital.
In comparison to Bhimtal, Naukuchiatal is hotter but known for its picturesque loveliness with lotus flowers and various species of fishes. The place is worth to visit when lotus flowers bloom and give an eye-soothing vision. The water of the lake is very clear, pure and healthy and bluish-green in color. It is believed that any person who sees all the nine corners of Naukuchiatal at same time, within one year, he will die but doing so is impossible. There are many activities that you can indulge in here, such as boating, kayaking, angling, swimming and horse riding.
