Ban Ganga

Banganga Temple in Jammu and Kashmir is one of the worship centers on the way to Vaishno Devi, it is a first major halt for the devotees when embarking on an odyssey from Katra to Bhawan. Banganga Temple is perched around 3 km from Katra. The water of the Banganga River is considered as very pious where the devotees take holy baths and then start their spiritual yatra.

The name of this beautiful and serene place and the river – Banganga comes from two terms, Ban and Ganga, The meaning of Ban is Arrow and Ganga stands for the sacred river the Ganges. According to the mythological tales, the Goddess Durga on her way to Trikuta Hills from Bhumika Temple made a halt at the site, as Langoor Vir was thirsty. After watching his misery, Goddess shot an arrow into the stone to produce a spring, which created a tributary with a bow and arrow and the river Ganga gushed out from the land. That is why this place is well known as the Banganga. The location of the Banganga temple is splendid as the tourists can get to see the enchanting landscape and stunning hills that offer a mesmerizing experience.

Best Time to Visit
The months between March and October are considered to be the best to visit Ban Ganga River. However, due to little rain in the monsoon season, the river does not have enough water in it. In the winter months too, the water from river decrease or almost dries up.
