Climate of Katra Vaishno Devi Mandir is located in Katra at the Trikuta Mountains within the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Summer season is relatively hot. Maximums can go as high as 45°C. Vaishno Devi in Winter (December - February)
Vaishno Devi experiences snowfall during December and January. The period can prove to be a very charming one to visit the Shrine. The Holy Cave Vaishno Devi is also open during the winters to provide a mystical experience performing Darshans through this cave. The weather here in winters is characterised by a sub-zero level temperature in addition to snowfall. The harsh temperature makes the pilgrimage difficult, but devotees still take the yatra for the Holy Cave. Wearing heavy woollen clothes is advisable. Unless you're physically fit and raring to go, this is not the ideal season for a visit.
Vaishno Devi in Summer (March - June)
Beginning from March, the summer months May, June, July are ideally the best time to visit Vaishno Devi. The days are although quite hot in May and June, it cools down by the evening, making the experience pleasant for the pilgrims. Wearing light woollen clothes is advisable due to the low temperatures at higher altitudes. This season is especially ideal for those, who don't want to be trapped in the rush of the crowd.
Vaishno Devi in Monsoon (July - September)
The monsoon season at Vaishno Devi is from August to September. In monsoons, you get to see breathtaking waterfalls surrounded by lush green forest. The region receives medium to heavy rainfall. Therefore, it is not advisable to take a yatra to the shrine due to the risk of mudslides. Monsoons are ideal for budget travellers, who always seek discounts and offers. As monsoon is an offseason, the prices for flights and hotels are lowest. This is the best time to visit Vaishno Devi if you have a tight budget or you love natural beauty. Make sure to carry umbrellas and raincoats.
Vaishno Devi in Autumn (October & November)
This is the peak season of the pilgrims, owing to the festive seasons. Nowhere will you see such a crowd of enthusiastic devotees roaring 'Jai Mata Di' as in October, during the time of the Navaratri. Although during and after Diwali, the crowd starts thinning, which makes it another ideal time for a visit. Those travelling by the new road, cut beside Ardh Kumari, are bound to be mesmerized by the beauty of the scenery from the trek on the Trikuta Hills.
