Ajabgarh Fort

Ajabgarh fort is one of the historical monuments of India, located in the district of Alwar, Rajasthan. It is situated on NH 11A in the area Guwara Birkar, Alwar. It lies in between Bhangarh and Pratapagarh forts, which are near Sariska Tiger Reserve. The bus stand and railway station of Alwar both are around 76 kms away in distance from this old fort. This area does not have much connectivity with the main city of Alwar. Tourists can reach here by their personal vehicles or hiring a cab.

Ajabgarh fort was built during the time period 1589-94 by Maharaja Ajab Singh Rajawat, who was Madho Singh's son. This fort lies with Bhangarh fort, who was built by Maharaja Bhagwant Das for his son, Madho Singh. Ajabgarh fort is a very old fort situated on a small hilltop. It is an abandoned fort that lies completely in ruins.

Visitors can ideally spend an hour or two in order to roam this small fort. It offers an amazing view due to its natural surroundings. It can be visited with other nearby forts such as Bhangarh and Pratapagarh forts. Tourists who come to visit Sariska Tiger Reserve can also take a break at this fort. Its beautiful architecture is quite a sight to behold. It proves to be an astounding place for the photography lovers.

This fort is open on all days of the week. There are no specific times regarding this fort. The ideal timings would be from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. There is no entry fee to visit this fort neither for Indians nor for foreigners. Visitors can spend this fort during the winter season in spite of sunmers due to very hot and humid weather of Rajasthan.

Monuments in Alwar is a where the journey of the Fairy Queen ends! The oldest working engine in the world and one of India’s national treasure, Fairy Queen leads a train from Delhi encampment to Alwar in Rajasthan. The engine was built in 1855 and acquired by the Eastern Indian Railways from a British firm. The train that harnesses this engine is now used for tourism. The journey of the city of Alwar and its origins can be traced back to 1500 BC. Nestled in the lap of the green hills of the Aravalli range, it is home to beautiful palaces and forts from an era long gone. The deep valleys and thick forest cover of the hills are a haven for many species of birds such as grey partridge and white-throated kingfisher and animals, most notably, the Bengal tiger and golden jackal. It is this splendour and exquisite architecture, along with the calm lakes, royal hunting chalets, dense jungles and a socio-cultural environment unlike any other that makes Alwar a traveller’s delight. Alwar is one of the oldest cities in Rajasthan. Paradoxically, the city is also the most recent of the Rajput kingdoms. Its traditions can be traced back to the realms of Viratnagar that flourished here around 1500 BC. Also known as Matasya Desh, this is where the Pandavas, the mighty heroes of the Mahabharata, spent the last years of their 13-year exile.
