Shopping in Bundi

Shopping in Bundi A delightful experience, with a range of goods you’re not likely to find elsewhere. Pick up anything from stone statues, wooden toys, lacquer bangles and colourful shawls. A special buy would be copies of the famous Bundi murals done on silk and paper. These are available at Bundi Art and Nahar ka Chotta. Miniature paintings marked by a particular green tint are another specialty buy here. The Kota-Bundi miniatures are done on silk, paper and marble and feature animals and landscape against a backdrop of red. Don’t leave without buying the beautiful and ever so elegant Kota Saris of Rajasthan which are sold in abundance here. And finally, Bundi laddoos are believed to have originated here, so get your hand on some!

Sadar Bazar
The Sadar Bazar is a confluence of the historical and modern, where post offices, malls and showrooms jostle for space with old jewellery shops, kiosks selling Paan (betel leaf) and the local police station. If you want an accommodation right in the middle of the market, go for the Dev Niwas hotel.

Chaumukha Bazar
Chaumukha Bazar is the largest market in the area and is another popular tourist destination for buying a number of Bundi souvenirs, including cotton carpets, wooden toys, papier mache puppets, lac bangles, Kota Doria Sarees and wooden decorative items. The Kota Saree is made of pure cotton and is characterized by the presence of square design motifs called Khats on them. The elaborate chequered weave may make the Saree look grandiose, but the Saree is surprisingly lightweight.

Also do not miss the exquisite miniature Bundi Kalam paintings while shopping in Chaumukha Bazar. They depict lovely hunting scenes, prancing animals, flowers and other natural motifs. Some other paintings include those based on the Paglya and Mandana style from the villages around Bundi.

Thathera Bazar
Stretching for almost half a kilometer, this market is the largest utensils market in Bundi, besides which you can also decorative items made out of iron and stainless steel.
