Kumbhalgarh Tourist Attractions
Kumbhalgarh Fort : Rana Kumbha got the Kumbhalgarh fort constructed in the 15th century. One of the few forts in Rajasthan that have remained unconquered. Kumbhalgarh was also the birthplace of Maharana Pratap, Mewar's legendary king. The attractions of the fort include a number of fascinating palaces and an array of temples inside it. The fort is enclosed by a thick wall, running up to 36 km and offers a splendid view of the surroundings.
The Badal Mahal has beautiful apartments painted with delicate pastel-colored murals.
Haldighati is the scene of the famous battle of 1576 fought between Rana Pratap, the heroic son of King Udai Singh, and the massive forces of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. A beautiful chhatri or canopy with white marble columns dedicated to Rana Pratap stands here.
Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary : Spread over an area of 578 sq km, the Kumbhalgarh wildlife sanctuary is home to a wide variety of wildlife. Wolf, leopards, sloth bear, hyena, jackal, jungle cat, nilgai, four horned antelope, chinkara, grey jungle fowl and a number of other animals inhabit this sanctuary. A birds watcher's paradise, the sanctuary serves as a habitat of peacocks, doves, red spur owls, parakeets, golden oriole, gray pigeons, bulbul, white breasted kingfisher, etc. Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary The 286-sq-kms sanctuary supporting a rich variety of wildlife like the Panther, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Four-horned Antelope and scientifically bred crocodiles in the lake are the major attractions. The Sanctuary is also noted for Flamingoes, Cormorants, Spoonbills and Egrets, which are usually seen in winter.
