Vedi Temple is a historic temple complex located near the Hanuman Pol of Kumbhalgarh Fort in Rajasthan. It was built during the reign of Rana Kumbha around 1457 CE, primarily as a place for performing rituals associated with the completion of Kumbhalgarh Fort.
The most distinctive feature of Vedi Temple is its three-storeyed, octagonal Yajna Vedi structure. It stands on a high platform and is supported by 36 pillars, which carry a large domed roof. The complex also contains a square chhatri and a group of three shrines with a shared mandapa.
The temple faces west and is enclosed by high walls. Its architecture combines domical roofs, carved pillars, stonework and curvilinear shikharas, making it an important example of the architectural traditions associated with 15th-century Mewar. The Archaeological Survey documentation identifies the monument as being under the Archaeological Survey of India.
Vedi Temple is particularly interesting because it was designed around yajna and ritual functions, rather than simply as a conventional temple. The central chhatri is traditionally understood as being associated with ritual offerings during yajnas.
