Dhordo, which lies about 86 kilometres from Bhuj, is the venue for the Rann of Kutch Festival. The main venue set up by the government ‘The Tent City’ is in this village.
If you have booked a package with the Gujarat Tourism Department, then all you have to do is get to Bhuj. The Department organises transport from the Bhuj Airport, Bhuj Bus and train Station, to and fro to the venue.
If you are on your own, then you can either take a bus to Dhordo or hire a taxi which will take you to the village.
The package by the Gujarat Tourism department includes stay for the duration in one of the tents. The Tent City includes all amenities like a dining area, spas, spiritual centres, kid’s zone, visitor’s area and concierge. The tents are spacious and luxurious and offer a peek into natural living. They are equipped with amenities such as clean bathrooms, air conditioners and heaters and comfortable beds.
If you have not booked the package, then there are a few resorts and homestays in the nearby areas which provide clean accommodation.
The handicrafts of Kutch are famous all over the world. The embroidered garments, the batik and the block prints, carved wood trinkets, silver ornaments, shawls and accessories are all a must buy from the bazaars set up during the festival.
There are traditional activities to indulge in such as a camel ride or a trek up a sand dune. But modern activities too have been introduced. ATV rides across the sands, parasailing, archery, spa and massages, yoga and meditation and the list of activities to be indulged in goes on and on. There is also a designated kid’s zone setup with special activities.
But a must do activity during the Rann Utsav is a campfire on a full moon night. It is nights like these that the sand comes alive with the artist performing folk arts and casting mesmerising spells on the visitors.
Tasting the cuisine of the region is a must indulge activity and the one that you will not regret.
