Badi Lake Udaipur is in Rajasthan, the wondrous state of India that draws tourists like a magnet is well known for its forts, palaces, lakes, and of course the wide expanse of the Thar desert. It is one of our favourite states in India and has drawn us many times into its fold and rewarded us with precious moments to be treasured forever. So we found ourselves yet again on a road trip across the state of Rajasthan to explore some more places. The trip started in the capital city of Jaipur and culminated in the beautiful city of Udaipur which is adorned with the sobriquet, “City of Lakes”.
The city of Udaipur has much to offer the casual tourist as well as the discerning traveler with its many palaces and lakes. The landmarks of Udaipur was swarming with people as it was the holiday season, we yearned to go somewhere, far from the madding crowd, and that is when we thought about the Badi lake Udaipur. So off we went leaving the crowds and the city of Udaipur behind, across a bumpy and dusty road that promised to lead us to the serene paradise that was Badi lake Udaipur. The Badi Lake Udaipur is a relatively lesser-known but beautiful lake located about 12 kilometres from Udaipur City, a welcome break from the crowded city.
History
Maharana Raj Singh I (1652-1680) attempted to construct the lake Badi to protect the city of Udaipur on dry season. This lake was named after Jiyan Sagar for the sake of his mom Jan Devi. Between the dry periods of 1973, the lake gave water to the overall public of Udaipur. The lake helps the overall public of the city in its pinnacle and serves them unprecedented, similarly, water was later utilized for some business purposes too. Work was done in Lake Badi Village.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit the lake is during the early hours of the morning when the fresh rays from the sun are kissing the blue waters of the lake. Another time when you can visit the lake is during sunset when the sky is coloured with a medley of colours ranging from orange to purple. Besides, it is best if you visit here during the monsoons when the rains have washed off all the dust and the area looks refreshingly clean, alive and fresh.

By Air : Maharana Pratap Airport is the nearest airport located In Udaipur at a distance of about 31 kilometers from Badi fort Udaipur.
By Train : Udaipur City Railway Station is well-linked with most parts of the city rail link. The distance between Udaipur City Railway Station to Badi lake is 13 km by road. From the railway station, you can get numerous local transport services.
By Road : The Bari Talab or Badi Lake is located about 13 kilometres from Udaipur City near the village of Bari. You can get numerous private transport or auto-rickshaws to reach the lake.
