Nagaur City is located in the north western Marwar region of Rajasthan. It is an area with a forest belt of thorn scrubs that circles the Thar Desert. It’s surrounded by Churu District in the north, Bikaner District from the northwest and Sikar District in the northeast. Pali lies in the south and Jodhpur District to the southwest and west. Jaipur is located on its east, while Ajmer is in the southeast. In the south eastern stretch of this district lies the magnificent Aravalli Range while India’s largest salt lake, ‘Sambhar Lake’ lies at the southwestern corner of the district.
This city was known as Jangladesh in Mahabharata era. Its fort stands testament to the great battles and rulers who fought them. This town was granted to Raja Amar Singh Rathore by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Nagas, Chauhans, Rathores, Mughals and even the British laid claim on this city. The dargah of Sufi saint Hamiduddin Chisti Faruqui Nagauri, one of the chief disciples of Khwaja Moinuddin, is also located here. Nagaur is also the birthplace of Saint Poetess Meera Bai and Abul Fazal.
History
Nagaur was continuously under thrdomonion of the Delhi Sultanate, the rulers of Marwar and Guajarat. This place was captured by Sher Shah 1542. Later, it became a part of the Mughal empire as a sarkar(division) under the Ajmer Subah.

Nagaur Fort
Nagaur Fort is an ancient fort built by Naagvansi Shatriya Dynasty in the 2nd century. Now, it also has a Ranvas Hotel with temples and paintings. Fort is located approx. 2 km from the city railway station.
Cenotaph of Amar Singh
Amar Singh Chattri is well-designed cenotaph located near Jada Talab pond in Nagaur city in Rajasthan. This cenotaph built by king Amar Singh Rathore of Marwar in the 16th century.
Nahar Bhawani Mata Ji Mandir
This temple is located on Ajmer to Nagaur road about 5 km from the Nagaur city of Rajasthan. Nahar Bhawani Mata temple is still under construction. But definitely this project will be the new destination in Nagaur or Rajasthan.
Sant Likhmi Das Ji Temple Amarpura
Well, this temple looks much beautiful then other temples in Nagaur city. This built with white marbles and red stones. Temple is dedicated to Hindu lords and Saint Likhmi Das Ji. It is located about 4 km from the main city of Nagaur.
