Luna Vasahi Temple Mount Abu


This is the second most important temple amongst the temples of Dilwara. Built in 1230, Luna Vasahi Temple is dedicated to Lord Neminath, the 22nd Jain Tirthankara Lord. The main hall of the temple is known as Rang Mandap. This hall comprises a central dome with a carved pendant. Here, not less than 72 figures of Tirthankars are positioned in a circular band. Made on the same structural pattern, Luna Vasahi Temple also has a Hathishala with 10 marble elephants. Again, Navchowki holds nine delicately carved ceilings with intricate marble work. The main hall or Gudh Mandap has the idol of Lord Neminath that is carved out of black marble. On the left side of the temple, there is a big pillar made out of black stone by the name of 'Kirti Stambha'.

Located just a few kilometers away from the Dilwara Temple Mount Abu, it is a must visit during visit to Mount Abu. There are a number of beliefs related to the Luna Vashi temple. It is believed that two brothers on their way to a pilgrim trip were carrying huge amount of gold. They decided to bury the wealth under a tree but as they dug the place they found there huge amount of gold. As they got so much wealth, they made a temple with that wealth and dedicated it to the Jain Tirthankaras. Beliefs like these attract even more number of tourists and devotees. The Luna Vashi temple has a number of features that often leave tourists mesmerized. The intricate carvings and the floral designs not only impart more beauty to the temple but also are a treat to the eye of the tourists. These features are in fact the prime attraction for regular tourists.


How to Reach Mount Abu

By Air: Udaipur houses the nearest airport, the Maharana Pratap Airport, situated at a distance of 185 km from Mount Abu. The airport has direct flights from some of the major cities of India such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Jaipur.
By Train: Abu Road is the nearest railway station from the hill station, at around 28 km from the city. It is connected by direct trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Jodhpur.
By Road: Mount Abu is reachable from some of the country's major cities via road, like Delhi, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jaipur and Bundi. Regular buses ply on these routes, which are run by the government and other private operators as well.


Best Time to Visit Mount Abu

Winter season is the best time to visit Mount Abu. Although, due to its height the weather is not extremely hot during summers as well. September to March are ideal months to visit this hill station.
