Chhatra Mahal Bundi
The Chitra Mahal in Bundi was once a spectacular garden palace that teemed with numerous fountains as well as pools that housed exotic fish. Chitra means painting, and this palace’s name stems from the beautiful murals that adorn its walls. In older times, during the 18 th century, Bundi was a beehive for miniatures, and miniature paintings were highly encouraged. From gods and goddesses, battle scenes, and elephants to images of Radha and Krishna, these paintings depict a special delicacy that is known only in the region. There’s also a Chitrashala in the Chitra Mahal that was made under orders from Umed Singh. Being the innermost chamber of the Mahal, sunlight and moisture hasn’t affected the paintings here, making the art glow with the originality of their painters. In its totality, the walls and ceilings of the Chitra Mahal form a dramatic panaroma that is always worth a visit.
Bundi Attractons
The Taragarh Fort in Bundi is undoubtedly its most popular tourist destination. Built in the 14th century, the fort is situated on a hilltop that is covered with trees and offers spectacular views of the town below. The fort complex also houses a water tank that used to supply water to the Bundi Palace. The Bundi Palace is another magnificent tourist spot, in its own right. Also built on a hill, perhaps a little before the fort, the architecture of the palace portrays the classic Rajputana style. Carvings and murals within the palace add an inexplicable charm, luring visitors from all over. The famous step-well in Bundi, called the Raniji Ki Baori, should not be missed. Built in the 17th century by Princess Rani Nathavatji, the well is about 46 meters deep and has a tall, arched gate and beautifully carved pillars. It is said that the best season to visit this unique step-well is in the monsoon. There are a number of other palaces and structures in Bundi that will make sure you don’t have a moment of boredom while visiting this vibrant Rajasthani city.
